My domain or email isn't working after the move
This page covers the problems members most often meet after moving their website and domain to 1smart.link. Find the one that matches what you see, and follow the fix.
Note: Every member's records are different. Always copy the values shown in your own Website tab or your email provider's setup page, never values from a picture in our guides.
Your domain
Verify now still says the records are not found
There are two usual reasons.
The change is still spreading. New records, and especially a nameserver change, take a while to reach the whole internet. Wait, then click Verify now again.
Your domain still uses your old host's nameservers. Records you add at your domain company have no effect while the nameservers point somewhere else. Set the nameservers back to your domain company's default, then add the records again if they are missing. Our guides for Namecheap, GoDaddy and Hostinger show where this is.
Also check that the Host of each record is exactly what your Website tab shows: @ for the A record and www for the CNAME record, never your full domain name.
At Namecheap, records cannot be edited or deleted, or make no difference
Your domain is still on Custom DNS nameservers. While it is, the records under Advanced DNS are not used. Choose Namecheap BasicDNS in the Nameservers box on the Domain tab and save with the green tick.
At GoDaddy, the DNS records are greyed out and there is no Add button
GoDaddy can ask you to confirm the contact details of a newly bought domain. Until you do, the domain shows a yellow "pending WHOIS verification" notice, it does not work on the internet, and you cannot change its records. Click Validate in the notice, or the link in GoDaddy's email, and follow the steps. GoDaddy can take a while to unlock the records after that. Once Add New Record shows, you can add your records.
At Namecheap, you cannot add MX records
Namecheap only lets you add MX records once Mail Settings is set to Custom MX. On the Advanced DNS tab, scroll down to Mail Settings, choose Custom MX, then add your email provider's MX records. Adding DNS records and resetting nameservers at Namecheap shows each click.
The verification code went into the nameserver box
Codes from your email provider, such as zoho-verification=…, are TXT records. They never go in the nameserver boxes. If one was typed there, your website and email stop working. Put the nameservers back to your domain company's default, then add the code as a TXT record with host @.
Old records are still pointing somewhere else
A parking page, a redirect, or an old A or CNAME record on @ or www stops your website records from working. Remove any record on @ or www that is not one of the two your Website tab shows. At Namecheap, also remove any URL Redirect Record; at Hostinger, check the Redirects tab.
The website domain was added on the Domains page
The Domains page in your dashboard is for short links and QR codes. A domain for your website goes in the Website tab, under Addresses, with Use my own domain. Add it there and use the records it shows. You can remove the one on the Domains page if you do not use it for short links.
The website or its certificate is taking a while
After Verify now succeeds, your domain shows Securing while its security certificate is set up. When it is ready, it shows Primary and becomes your website's main address. This can take a little while, and you can leave the page in the meantime. A new website shows Building in the same way while it is created.
Your email
Email is not arriving
The most common reason is old MX records left behind. Your domain's MX records decide where its email goes. If the old ones are still there, some or all mail goes to your old mailbox. Remove every MX record that is not from your new email provider, so only the new ones are left.
Zoho's TXT record will not verify
Check the record was added as TXT, with host @ (some domain companies want it left blank).
Check the whole value was pasted, starting with zoho-verification=.
Check it went into your DNS records, not the nameserver boxes.
Wait a few minutes, then click Verify TXT Record again.
You cannot find where the DKIM record goes
DKIM is a TXT record, added in the same place as your other TXT records. Its host is a name ending in _domainkey. Copy the host exactly as your email provider shows it, because it can differ between accounts, and paste the long value in one go.
There are two SPF records
A domain must have only one SPF record: a TXT record whose value starts with v=spf1. With two, email checks fail and your mail can land in spam or be refused.
How to tell. Look through the TXT records on your domain company's DNS page. If more than one starts with v=spf1, you have two. A common case at Namecheap is the old email-forwarding SPF record (it includes registrar-servers.com) left next to Zoho's. Zoho's DNS Mapping page also warns you when it sees more than one.
The fix. Keep only your new provider's SPF record and delete the other. If you really do send email through two services, ask your email provider for one combined value.
An old SPF record still shows up after you changed it
A changed or removed record can take a while to disappear everywhere. If the record is correct on your domain company's DNS page, wait, then check again. Do not add another SPF record in the meantime.
Only paid plans show on Zoho's pricing page
Zoho shows its paid plans first. Scroll further down, past the paid plans, the trial and the mix-and-match section, to the box called Forever Free Plan. Setting up free business email on your domain with Zoho Mail shows where it is.
Your website's emails
Website emails are not sending: "Could not authenticate"
If your Zoho account is on Zoho's India data centre, the host smtp.zoho.com fails with "SMTP Error: Could not authenticate." Use smtp.zoho.in instead. Also check you used your full email address as the username, and an app password rather than your Zoho login password. Sending your website's emails through Zoho Mail shows each setting.
Website emails go missing with another provider
Follow Sending email from your website, then send a test email and check the spam folder too.
